6 monthly update
Toby bounced into our lives at the end of August and our lives have never been the same since!!
He came as a little bundle of cuddles and this really has not stopped. He had very few accidents in the first few days and was very soon completely house trained. He had initial training from Rachel so came with manners, but he has been a joy to train, being very intelligent and new commands are picked up in no time at all, I wish I had that brain capacity.
We constructed a night crate for him when he first arrived and he had an open crate with an enclosed area at night, so that he could come out of his bed and do his business, which reduced the amount of times we had to get up to him, but to be fair his bowel and bladder control came in very quickly and I think he had about 5 accidents in that crate and by 5 months he was in his main crate and has been very good since.
He is a very social dog and remains that still, he would rather love humans and dogs to death than anything else. He has many friends in the field where we run him but his favourite is Louie who is a Springer Spaniel who he met at puppy classes.
Toby loves his food and at Christmas about 6 months of age we also reduced him to 2 meals a day, the first day those cocker eyes were going (cocker owners know what I mean) but since then he had not looked back. He eats kibble, raw nuggets, raw blocks of meat and fish, eggs, broccoli and carrots, and his favourite Bonios.
He has wriggled himself under everybody’s skin, friends and family, and I can tell you he had the biggest pile of presents for Christmas this year.
He has an adorable nature, is very loving and has a calm temperament and is just there to greet you when you get up in the morning or come in from outside. Toby has just settled in with us and we have definitely been given the right dog.
As some of you know having walked with us, Toby loves to go at 100 miles an hour, but his recall to voice and whistle is amazing, never giving us any moments of concern. He loves water whether it is river or sea, and we are looking forward his first summer later this year.
He has been very good on the damage concern of having a dog, we have gone through a multitude of toys but he has never done any damage in the house at all with only a small hole in the garden, but then that is in their nature and you have to take that into account.
Toby now weights nearly 15 kilograms and is definitely slowing down with this side of his development.
He is now coming up for 8 months and I can tell you we have 6 months of absolute fun and laughter and would not part with him for all the tea in China. They are a lovely breed and if you get one of Raezhavens’, you are very lucky indeed as we consider we are.
Alison, Peter and of course Toby.
